General Information: Throughout one's lifttime, the skin is subjected to mechanical stresses which can alter its quality under certain condition.
Local distension of the skin promotes the appearance of stretch marks. They occur where the skin's network of collagen and elastic fibers has been torn and can be seen as thin red lines on the surface of the skin, which later become white. Stretch marks are very common. They may occur as a result of mechanical or hormonal factors or after taking certain types of medication. Stretch marks are most frequently formed during puberty, pregnancy and periods of weight gain or loss. They can appear on various areas of the body, which differ according to sex. They are usually formed on the hips, thighs chest/shoulders or at the base of the spine. They are also common on the buttocks and knees.
